Day Eighty: No Freaking Appetite

The last two days have been torture. My portions are he-you-ge these days, and nothing seems appealing. Can this still be post-indulgence letdown? Only I don't think indulgence food would be appealing, either.

Yesterday, I didn't pack lunch, and bought a large salad with most of a can of tuna on it and a bunch of dry toast. I only managed half the salad. As I forked up bite after bite, my gag reflex got in the way and made eating any more impossible. In the evening, my husband made buttered toast. It smelled great, and my stomach was growling, but I also felt a little nauseated by it. I'd eaten the citrus chicken and couscous at my bookclub meeting in approximate portion sizes, and added some vegetables when I got home. Yesterday, I was probably way under grams, which means that I got hungry very easily today.

And yet it only takes a few bites of food before I start feeling revolted again. Lunch was just egregiously large, and dinner was another long fight with the gag reflex. This is food that last week was very appetizing to me. I've adopted throwing my hands up in a v in the air at the end of every meal: triumph over giant portions is mine! But what I really want is egg white, apple, milk, like the next generation over there.

  1. Hey Kim! Oof, that sounds torturous. I never really lost my appetite to such a degree, but I remember Jenny blogging about exactly that at some point near the end. I hope the appetite returns in full force soon - it really IS a lot of food!!

  2. Your stomach is a much smaller organ than it used to be. We're trying to gently stretch it back out!

  3. Wow, that's crazy. I just wrote a blog about the exact opposite feeling. I've been hungry even with all this food. Wonder what's going on. Weird wacky stuff. I hope that you regain your appetite soon. I'm liking the throwing the hands in the V after finishing the meals. I'm going to do the same once I'm full and there's still food on the plate.

  4. so sorry to hear bout your gag reflex being triggered. that is rather annoying and unpleasant, especially when eating is supposed to be a pleasurable experience. hope the appetite returns quickly!

can't say i experienced the same. i lost a bit of the appetite when i got sick at the end but i thought sarah and jenny were loca when they said they had a hard time w/all that food. :P

  5. i got my period this weekend and DID downsize to milk, apple & egg on monday.. yesterday i had a huge cup of coffee that threw off my eating schedule, so I didn't have lunch until 3pm, but was able to get back on track (sans carbs) for dinner.. no gag reflex issues here, but i feel like we may be dealing with the same thing..

  6. Ugh, the idea of a salad with canned tuna and a stack of dry toast kinda makes me want to gag, too. :) Actually, a couple days ago I had one of those days where it pained me to fit it all in (also coincided with the start of my period, pattern?) and my food actually tasted GOOD. Who knows why it happens? But, thankfully, the appetite returned in full force and I can't seem to eat enough right now. Be patient with yourself. When it returns, you'll be ravenous.
